Scarlett Johansson was born on November 22, 1984, at New York City New York. She is an American singer/actress whose range has won her recognition across many types of films ranging from thrillers and adventures to period films. Johansson is the daughter of a film producer and an architect. Her family was based in New York City. Hunter, the sister of Johansson was also born in the city of New York. When she was a kid she was able to begin acting. In fact, by seven she was already auditioning for several commercials. Then she began her studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and then attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan to further hone her craft. In the age of eight, she starred with Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry when she was nine. At that age, she made her debut in film with Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson subsequently starred in Just Cause (1995), but her first break occurred in the form of Manny & Lo a coming of age drama about sisters fleeing. After that, she earned high praise from critics for her performance as an teen girl who been injured and left her damaged as she appeared in The Horse Whisperer (1998). The film gained her more acclaim for her performance in Ghost World (2002) as the outcast cynical Rebecca.
